The Kal Tire Bunnyrabbit & Jackrabbit programs form the Skill Development Program (SDP) for children, and are based on Cross Country Canada and Sport Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD). These two Skill Development programs are designed to encourage lifelong participation in cross-country skiing while developing all children to their full potential.

All programs are 10 weeks in length starting after the Christmas holiday break and ending before March break. The program includes participation in our local Coast Cup event, the Beckie Scott Sprints event and the year-end Bunnyrabbit and Jackrabbit tournament.

Kal Tire Bunnyrabbit Program

The Kal Tire Bunnyrabbit Program (Active Start) for children 4-5 is designed to develop fundamental movement skills with a focus on balance and agility, coordination, self-confidence, imagination and social skills. It encourages children to be active, grow to skillfully control their bodies, and develop an awareness and appreciation of our natural environment. Parent participation in all lessons at this level is required.

Kal Tire Jackrabbit Program (Levels 1 - 4)

The Kal Tire Jackrabbit Program (FUNdamentals) for children 6–8 aims to help children learn basic cross-country ski skills and to instil a lifelong interest in the sport, thereby enhancing their quality of life and health. The program is designed to develop FUNdamental movement skills, build overall motor skills, confidence and social skills, and encourage fun participation. Low-key competitions are introduced, as are inter-club social, skill, and fitness-oriented ski activities, such as the year-end tournament.

For kids who are eager to ski both Saturday and Sunday, we now offer the Jackrabbit Plus Program for Level 1-4. Children are assigned to two Jackrabbit groups, one on Saturday and one on Sunday, with different coaches and group participants. This is a great opportunity to learn from different coaches, meet even more like minded friends and double your FUN!

All registered families are expected to volunteer throughout the season. Various volunteer roles are available. You will be asked during registration to indicate your interest in volunteering.

Share your love of skiing and become a certified coach!
