The sport of Cross Country Skiing
relies on qualified volunteer coaches and officials
to train athletes and run race events. There are well-established
national coaching and officials development programs
for cross-country skiing and biathlon in Canada involving
several levels of certification and opportunities to
travel to major ski events around the province, country
and ultimately the world! It all starts at the club
level.
It is a National policy that coaches are required to
complete the Intro To Community Coach Course(16hrs)
in order to supervise, instruct or coach ski activities
for children under the age of 16 years. The NCCP
certification program is undergoing changes a FAQ
can be read here.
NCCP PROGRESSION:
* Introduction to Community Coaching (ICC) Workshop
(10 hrs). This program is directed at coaches working
with novice skiers and specifically children under six
years of age (Active Start stage of athlete development).
* Community Coaching (CC) Workshop (16 hrs). This program
is directed at coaches working with children six to
nine years of age (FUNdamentals stage of athlete development).
Snow is required for the teaching of this course.
* Learning to Train - (L2T - Dryland) Workshop (16 hrs).
This program is directed at coaches working with children
ten to twelve years of age (Learning to Train stage
of athlete development). Courses should be held prior
to the snow season.
* Learning to Train - (L2T On-snow) Workshop (16 hours).
This program is also directed at coaches working with
children ten to twelve years of age. Snow is required
