Long-Term Athlete Development
The new Canadian Long-Term Athlete Development Resource Paper: Canadian Sport for Life has been posted. We encourage you to view this excellent document, especially if you are a coach, since Cross Country Canada's revised coaching program is closely integrated with this model.

Welcome !

The Strathcona Nordics are Vancouver Island’s Cross Country Ski Club. Our activities are based at Mt Washington near Courtenay, B.C. We are a not for profit society dedicated to skier development and the promotion of the sport of cross country skiing for fun, fitness, recreation and health. We are also working to improve the infrastructure and facilities and for cross country skiers on Vancouver Island. Our long-term goal is to send skiers and officials from Vancouver Island to the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

The club and its activities are organized and run by volunteer effort and supported through membership fees, fundraising and sponsorships. Our fundraising efforts have enabled us to hire a head coach to oversee and coordinate skier and coaching development. We are grateful for the support of our sponsors: CIBC Wood Gundy, Ski Tak Hut and Mt Washington Resort. We also benefit from the use of gaming funds allocated through the BC Gaming Commission.

The club is a member of Cross Country BC and Cross Country Canada who provide a liability insurance program and access to the provincial and national cross country network including a wide range of programs, resources and information about cross country skiing. The club also runs the "Strathcona Nordics / Pacific Sport Regional Nordic Training Centre" at Mount Washington which provides professional coaching to Vancouver Island Athletes through club head coach Dave Battison. We offer several ski programs designed for skiers of all ages, interests and abilities.

So please come into our site to find out more about us.
